The Lelit (now owned by Breville) Combi combines an excellent quality espresso machine with a built in conical burr grinder to give you everything you need to make cafe quality coffee at home.
Others Also Browsed
An older version of the Lelit combi was reviewed by Ian Cuthbertson of The Australian newspaper in 2012 (Since then, the steam valve has been upgraded and we've moved from Cremorne!) Read the review.
This version of the Lelit PL042 is the latest version. Improvements over older models include:
- stainless steel switches
- a brew pressure gauge,
- 9BAR over pressure valve (OPV). Older models have a 10.5BAR OPV, and
- increased steam pressure - a *big* improvement over older models
The grinder built into the Lelit Combi is the PL043MM - the micro-metric version of the PL043. This grinder has conical steel burrs to grind coffee to a fine consistency year after year. The micro-metric adjuster allows for very small adjustments to be made to the grind size with a relatively large turn of the adjusting knob. This give the barista very good control of the grind size.
The PL042EMI has a 3 way valve so that the group handle can be immediately removed after brewing. This valve also allows the machine to be backflushed. This feature makes the machine easy to use and easy to clean.
The Lelit PL042EMI has a built in brew pressure gauge which shows whether the brew pressure is optimal. (Too little pressure indicates an under extraction, too much pressure indicates an over extraction). The gauge will also indicate when maximum pressure is reached while backflushing - so that you know when to turn the pump off.
There has been a noticeable improvement in steam strength on this model over older versions of the PL42. This makes all the difference when trying to achieve silky, creamy milk for cafe quality flat whites, lattes and cappuccinos.
For the first time on a Lelit model, the PL042EMI has a true 9BAR OPV fitted. This ensures the brew is at the optimal pressure so that bitter coffee does not result as a consequence of high brew pressure. This pressure will be able to be read off the brew pressure gauge when extracting a shot. (Older models have a higher pressure OPV)

By: Maila on 24 March 2021Love this machine! It has everything you need all in one. I would've preferred if it was a dual boiler though, but other than that it is great value for money :)

Perfect coffee every time
By: Brian on 7 March 2019Our machine in now 6 years old and apart from routine cleaning and a bit of maintenance it is still running faultlessly. We estimate it has ground, pressed and delivered in excess of 6,000 cups of coffee Routine maintenance consists of dropping the basket holder, replacing seals every 6-9 months or so and of course running a cleaner through monthly too. I wasn't thrilled with the supplied Panarello so swapped if from a Delonghi mc i had when it broke, the Delonghi one gives a much smoother froth. Apart from that it is still as good as when I bought it. Thinking of replacing worn grinder as It's now on 1.2 and the steam valve dribbles a bit but you have to wipe it down anyway so the tiny puddle isn't an issue.

Lelit Combi
By: Steve on 21 February 2019I have owned the machine for about 3 weeks now. Very impressed by the quality of build, relatively quick heat up (5-10 mins) and consistent espresso pours with generous crema. The built in grinder is relatively quiet, but very consistent and easily adjustable (albeit a little messy). Milk steaming is excellent, good pressure and consistent dense foam, certainly adequate for amateur latte art. Steam/coffee boiler has to be primed after each frothing to prevent the element drying out, but this doesn't cause a significant annoyance. Overall an excellent machine for high quality espresso and milk coffees

Excellent espresso machine
By: Steven on 20 December 2018I've had this Lelit for two years and after taking a few weeks to get used to it, I'd confidently say it's the best machine I've ever owned. In two years, it hasn't let us down. The grinder works well, everything is easy to clean and, best of all, married with the right beans, it makes a great coffee.

home coffee rocks
By: cassie on 31 May 2016Investment in the lelit is looking great. My home coffee is so good don't need to purchase takeaway anymore. The further investment in good quality beans and milk takes it from good to great. And well prepared by jetblack. Thanks guys. Very happy barista.
